Outdoor Venues

This list includes venues that are completely outdoors and venues that offer a combination of  outdoor and indoor facilities.  The combination venues are typically used for weddings with the wedding ceremony held outside in a picturesque spot and the reception indoors in the adjacent building(s). 


American Legion Hall   (Indoor/Outdoor)

Located next to the Tuolumne River and on the edge of Legion Park.  Large building capable of small to very large parties with kitchen facilities.   Very large dinning room and a slightly smaller dancing room with a full size bar.  City of Modesto handles the renting and upkeep of the building for the Legion. Nice redwood balcony area overlooks the landscaped grounds below that lead down to the river. Wedding ceremonies are held both on the deck and out on lawn next to the river. Medium size park like setting. Capacity 350.   Man made small lake.  Nicely landscaped.  Would be excellent for a picnic or family reunion. Many outside weddings are held here. No banquet facilities.  Everything would have to be out in the open.  Daytime temperatures and weather conditions must be considered when planning the date and time of your event.    Unpaved parking.  East of downtown Oakdale about 2 miles towards Sonora.

Nestled in the foothills 8 miles west of I-5 and about 15 miles west of Patterson. This is a new planned City that is just starting to take shape.  Presently only a big beautiful club house sits next to the golf course with a large swimming pool and landscaped area behind the building which is where events take place, especially weddings.  Beautiful area and setting.  I understand that there is a small banquet room inside the clubhouse that is available.  Long way from major cities. For the wedding I did there, the guests were bused in by local charter service hired by the bride and groom.  Can be very hot in the summer.  Personnel very friendly and helpful. Have you seen the movie the Field of Dreams with Kevin Costner?  Remember the old Victorian home next to the ball field?  That's what Double T acres will remind you of when you first see it.  This is a ranch located out in the country about 5 miles  NW of Stevinson in Merced County.  The old Victorian home is the centerpiece of the well maintained property.  Next to the home is an outdoor grassy area for weddings.  On the grounds are an older A-Frame barn that has been fixed up for dancing including a concrete floor and a bar.  A new modern steel open air building where the food is served.  An old railroad caboose serves as the kitchen next to the serving area.  A collection of old vintage horse drawn carriages are housed in this building and available for viewing.

Not sure about the food.  I think you can hire your own catering service.  The ranch is operated by Tony & Carol Azevedo and is very popular.  When you rent it you get the whole place (except the home) for the night.  Open only during the spring and summer months.  Book early. Bring some bug repellant. Nothing but farm country out there where the bugs live. Plenty of free unpaved parking.    (Map and directions)

Erwindale Estate  (Outside events only)

This a private estate perched high on a river bluff with a spectacular view about 1/2 mile west of Hwy 120 NW of Oakdale on River road. Beautiful grounds surrounded by orchards able to handle up to 1200 guests.  All types of functions are allowed including weddings and receptions, birthdays, reunions, anniversaries, funerals etc. The people who own and operate Johnathan's catering operate this venue which is also their home.   Some restrictions apply including all music must stop at 1030 PM and all guests must vacate the premises by 1100 PM.  The only advertising of this venue is by word of mouth and they are busy all the time.   Note the address is not given to protect the owners of the estate from being disturbed when the venue is not booked.   You can make arrangements with owners Robert and Amy Erwin.  Gorgeous spot, no doubt the nicest in the area.  BOOK EAAAAARLY!!!!!!  or you will be disappointed.  Webpage www.johnathans.com

In addition to their restaurant listed above, the Fruityard has a nicely landscaped area behind the restaurant they call Lakeside. This spacious outdoor setting is ideal for outdoor ceremonies and weddings.  Nice setting with plenty of room for small to large events.  Plenty of off street parking. The Fruityard Restaurant next door has indoor facilities.  I don't know if you can book both facilities at the same time.  Check with them.  See their listing under Fruityard Restaurant.

Kautz Iron Stone Winery

Located in the hills of NE Calaveras County this is a modern winery with excellent facilities.  Wedding ceremonies are held in the fully landscaped outdoor area at the rear of the main building.   Receptions are held in the main building.  Food prepared and served by the establishment.   Excellent location if you don't mind the hour's drive from Modesto. Tough on the DJ because he has to set up in two different places in order to cover the ceremony and the reception. Will cost you more money as a result because of the extra equipment and moving of equipment.

Knights Ferry Resort

Sits on the Stanislaus River in downtown Knights Ferry. Never played here but I have been told that it is not the best spot for your event.  Space is limited, access is a nightmare and the management is less than friendly. As a matter of fact they were downright rude to a colleague of mine that stopped by to examine the layout in preparation for a wedding that he was contracted to do.

Located in historic downtown Knights Ferry about 20 miles east of Oakdale.  Quaint setting for this old club house which is small and cozy.  Wedding ceremonies can be held outside across the street overlooking the river. Kitchen facilities.  Small parties only. (50-100).   It's a ways out, but nice.  Just don't try to fit more people in than it can hold.    Parking on the street.   Nice area for weddings. Air conditioning is very poor. Old system can't handle all the body heat, especially on hot summer days. Cooler outside than inside.  Do it when it's cool.

Majestic Oaks   (Outside events only)

Grassy outdoor setting shaded by huge oak trees, overlooking the river. Huge cement dance floor. Weddings are held on one side of the dance floor and the reception is on the other side. Majestic Oaks does all food! They offer a good variety to choose from. Parking under the shade of walnut trees.  Their advertising says that they offer "the shaded elegance of a canopy of old oak trees along the Tuolumne River".  The location is  just East of the Big Bear Park in Waterford.  This site is not fully developed yet, but the owners are working hard to polish the spot.

And authentically restored Victorian home in downtown Modesto.  Located downstairs.  Small banquet room downstairs with a capacity of 70.  Very tight quarters inside for DJ, small little kitchen area but I don't think you could cook there, just use it to prepare.  Garden area outside for receptions with a capacity of 150 people.   Facility is managed by the City of Modesto.  They should be able to help you. Located on the grounds of Lake Yosemite Park this is a popular Merced County spot for wedding which are held on the grassy area behind the small club house.  Makes for some terrific wedding pictures.  Club house is small with kitchen facilities.  No late events. Everyone must be out of the area by 11 PM when they close the gate leading to the area.

Small building next to a park way out in the country (Crows Landing Rd. at West Main)  Cozy for a small to medium party. Kitchen facilities.  Unpaved parking in front of the building.  Should be reasonable to rent.  No air-conditioning other than water coolers when I last checked.  The telephone number listed above is the business line of the Mt. View Fire Dept which is next door.  Not sure, but I think they own the clubhouse.  In any event, they should be able to tell you who to contact for rental. Not sure but I think you can use the park for a wedding ceremony with the reception inside the hall.  Check on that.

Beautiful 10 1/2 acre spot located midway between Sonora and Tuolumne City on Tuolumne Rd.  This is a ranch and bed and breakfast all in one. The ranch is owned by Valerie Sparks.  Wedding ceremonies are held in a nicely landscaped area in front of the home and receptions and dancing  behind the home next to the pool.  Lots of shade and plenty of parking.  Well maintained buildings and grounds.  A real choice spot.  Valerie is very friendly and helpful.  Book early if you hope to get it.

On the grounds of the college. Very nice shaded picnic area with covered food preparation area with water. Restrooms and plenty of room for a small to large party. Excellent for a family or company picnic.  Plenty of parking. Contact the college to rent.

Newly developed golf course and Country Club just east of Stevinson. I have only played at the small facility offered. It's called the Meeting Room and has a small banquet facility with a swimming pool and spa.  Can accommodate small parties (50-75) only.  Adjacent nicely appointed and new small individual housing units may be rented for overnight stay.  Larger indoor facilities are located in the main clubhouse just SE of the Meeting Room.  Check out their nice website www.stevinsonranch.com.

Down a country lane to an expansive private acre and a half garden setting, a beautiful place for weddings. The Heirloom Inn is a brick two story petite Colonial mansion, circa 1863, with four seasonally themed guest rooms, plus Carriage House and cottage accommodations.
Beautiful spot..  But parking is a real problem.  Beautifully landscaped grounds with plenty of shade next to the Victorian style bed and breakfast Inn.  Long ways out, but nice.

Very popular spot on the banks of the Tuolumne River between Modesto and Ceres.  Older well used facility. Cozy with a view of the river.  Nice landscaped area outside the building for weddings.  Not large.  Small to medium parties. Book well in advance.   Plenty of parking in front of the building.  Kitchen facilities.

Beautifully landscaped large area behind the buildings where all events are held.  Ideal for a wedding. Plenty of shade and elbow room.  Establishment prepare and serve the food.  Very nice location.  Parking a problem.  It's very limited causing many people to park on the street.  Staff very courteous and helpful.   Book early.  Very popular place.

A rustic bed and breakfast Victorian style home is the centerpiece of the beautifully landscape grounds which have been the setting for many outdoor weddings.  Very expensive.  Everything is extra.  If you can afford the price you can't beat the ambiance.  Space for up to 350 guests, professional service and attention to detail will make your event an experience to remember.
